No hot water this morning! Repair or replace?

I think I just had the rudest awakening of my life. I jumped into the shower this morning only to be met with an icy blast of water. I went down to the basement to check the water heater, and there’s a small puddle around the base and a faint clicking sound coming from the unit. It’s about 9 years old, so I’m wondering if it’s even worth trying to fix at this point or if I should just look into getting a new one installed. Does anyone have experience with local specialists who won't try to upsell me on a massive system I don't need? I’m looking for someone honest and quick because cold showers are not my thing!

Oh man, that’s a rough way to start the day! A puddle around the base usually isn't a great sign—it often means the tank itself is starting to corrode or leak. Since your unit is nearly a decade old, you’re definitely in that "replace" window. When our heater started acting up last winter, we contacted welland plumbing https://superiorplumbing.ca/welland/ to get an expert opinion. They were excellent. The technician actually took the time to explain the difference between repairing the old valve and upgrading to a more energy-efficient model. We ended up going with a new tankless system they recommended, and our gas bill has actually dropped a bit. They handled the whole installation in one afternoon and left the basement cleaner than they found it. Definitely worth reaching out to them to see what your best option is!
