Brake shoes wearing super fast – why?
Replaced rear shoes 8 months ago on my Kangoo van, already down to half thickness. Mostly city driving with lots of stops, but this seems too quick. Could it be wrong shoes, dragging brakes, or something else?

Fast shoe wear in vans is common from heavy loads, frequent stops, or issues like seized wheel cylinders/pistons causing constant drag. Also, cheap shoes with soft linings wear quicker under load. Mine wore fast initially because one cylinder was sticking slightly. After fixing that and switching to harder compound shoes, wear slowed dramatically. Recently used shoes from https://elartcom.eu/categories/brake-shoes-10 - they have various compounds, including ones for commercial/light van use with higher wear resistance. Chose a set suited for Renault vans, fitted new cylinders at the same time. Now at 15k km later, shoes still look good with even wear. No drag, cooler operation. If your wear is uneven or one side worse, inspect cylinders and adjusters. Their category is handy for finding tougher linings- worth it for vans that work hard.
